Aside from BrainHQ, there are few lifestyle elements that also contribute to our brain’s health, and a newly-released Australian study reaffirms this. The study found that an eight-week multimodal program that included BrainHQ significantly improved cognitive performance and reduced Alzheimer’s risk among seniors with pre-dementia conditions. The results from this study and several others in progress build on the findings of the 10-year ACTIVE study on dementia. The study reported that healthy seniors who were assigned 18 hours of brain speed-training (now available as Double Decision in BrainHQ) had an up to 48% incidence reduction in dementia compared to the control group.
If you are one of the older members of our community, and have been waiting for the perfect time to start adopting a healthier lifestyle and starting on BrainHQ training, there’s no better time than now! Juggling a busy life is hard, but now is the time to make your brain health a priority! And, as ever, let us know how we can help.

Possible pathway to treatment
Scientists have long wondered how a genetic mutation linked to dementia and ALS (a motor neuron disease) causes nerve cells to die. Fresh research has shown that the mutation disrupts the cell’s pathway for transporting key biochemicals and that disruption leads to cell death in the brain and spinal cord. This means that this pathway may be the target for new treatment for ALS and the second-most common type of dementia.

Keeping in rhythm
We all know that sleep is critical, but did you know that when you sleep is also important? The brain has a unique waste removal system called the glymphatic system. Research has found that this system works best at night because it is synchronized with your circadian rhythms—the internal clock for your sleep-wake cycle. People who rely on sleeping during the day, such as night-shift workers, may be at risk of developing neurological disorders because their glymphatic system isn’t wired to work when they sleep during daytime hours.

Brain physiology and Autism
Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a neuropsychiatric condition that appears during childhood. There is an increasing amount of research done on the disorder, but there seems to be little knowledge of brain physiology in those with Autism. People with ASD often have elevated serotonin levels in their blood, and researchers in Sweden used a molecular brain imaging technique to analyze levels of serotonin in participants with ASD.
